Simply Fun: A Review

We were so excited to see our big box come in the mail. My son and I opened it eagerly and found four games inside. Games with educational value are a great reprieve from the mundane curriculum homeschoolers face every day. Simply Fun is a company that prides itself on presenting fun, exciting games that truly have educational value. They claim to teach kids social, academic, and developmental skills, and after experiencing some of their games for myself, I totally agree! We will definitely be ordering more from Simply Fun.

Who would benefit?
I would recommend this company to any parent with kids from toddlers to teenagers. These are great rainy day activities, or can be used to teach and reinforce skills your kids are learning in school. I was impressed with the colorful graphics on the game boards, cards, and game pieces that were included. The games we received were targeted toward middle elementary students and were a great match for my nine year old. I?ll tell a little more about each one.

Clover Leap

Clover Leap is a game that teaches sentences formation. It focuses on vocabulary development, basic sentence structure, and parts of a sentence. The game includes the cutest little sheep characters and even a sheep dog. You roll the dice and move your 2 sheep across the board and collect clovers. You just have to stay away from that sheep dog! Each clover either has a subject, verb, adjective or noun under it. You keep collecting them and try to make as many sentences as you can. Some of the sentences are quite silly, and will have you laughing! This one was a little below my son?s level, but he still enjoyed it. He is studying pronouns, adverbs, and diagramming sentences, so this was super easy for him.

Let?s Jet

This was our favorite game! Yes, I know, that?s hard to believe considering it?s about geography, but the colorful world game board, and jets make it irresistible. Of course, my son has an infatuation with airplanes and other flying objects, so that helped too. This game teaches strategy as well, because you have to figure out how to get to the destination on the card you draw. The quicker you get there, the better your chances of winning are. You will also learn interesting facts about each destination you make it to. I have to say I learned a lot from this game. I hate to admit it, but my son beat me at this one!

Tibbar?s Tangrams

This game is a giant puzzle with 7 large pieces that fit together to make a shape. It comes with a booklet with lots of ideas for shapes to complete. This game teaches spatial relationships, early geometry, and proportions. This would be great for a wide range of ages, starting at 3 to 4 year olds. My son really enjoyed making the animals, especially the shark!

Pickles? Pig Tales

This was the hardest game in the box (for me) because it involves MEMORY! Pickles? Pig Tales was really a fun game, but it can drive you crazy trying to remember the story. The story changes each time a player plays a card. You have to remember the story each time it?s your turn, and even though the cards are laid out for you to see, it?s still really difficult. My son and I found ourselves laughing hysterically at the crazy story we managed to come up with. I would have to say, I can see kids arguing over who?s right and wrong, if there were several kids playing without supervision. You would have to set some parameters about how close they had to get (or number of words correct) when retelling the story. This game really challenges your creativity and memory, and also encourages language development.

I received these games free from Simply Fun.?The opinions expressed are my own.
