Different Kinds of Disability Scooters to Choose From | Zwak.org

Nowadays, we are seeing numerous disabled people as well as elderly riding small scooters. These are called mobility scooters. They are designed to provide the best possible support for people who are not able to handle their movement well. This is great only for people who can still move their torso pretty well but have weak shoulders or if they have very weak legs.

The Disability Scooters can come in a 2 wheel option and are called electric bicycles. They are also called mopeds. These ones do not emit much noise when driven and they offer no-emissions at all. This is a good option for people with limited mobility. This is known as a power-assisted bike. Normally, for purpose of mobility assistance, no licenses are required for running this vehicle. Depending on your jurisdiction, you might want to ask if there are licenses, registration and plating that this particular vehicle should undergo before it is used by handicapped people.

There are also 3 wheel mobility scooters and they are mostly used by people for indoor purposes. This is great for home use as well as when in a shop. They are ideal for such purposes since they have a much smaller turning circle compared to a 4 wheel mobility scooter. This allows the person to maneuver the vehicle with more control so you can move in tight corners if necessary. Being 3 wheels, this offers good stability but if you wish to get more stability, the 4 wheel option can offer you some real advantage on that department. Most manufacturers offer the same model in 3 and 4 wheel versions.

The 4 wheel versions are considered to be the most stable of them all. It is like driving a car. You have 2 front wheels and 2 back wheels. This minimizes the possibilities of toppling down. For those with issues with balance or if you are scared of 2 wheel bicycles, this is a fantastic option to choose. Even if they are not as maneuverable as a 3 wheel option, the 4 wheel can offer immenser durability for regular driving activities.

There are also the compact or boot scooters and they are designed for easy transportation. These ones can be disassembled in a few minutes and they can fit inside the trunk of a car. They are easy to use and reassemble, making it a great option instead of carrying a wobbly and bulky wheelchair that does not offer the same level of mobility. Of course, they are really for short term use and are cheaper compared to the premium ones but they are good if you happen to travel and you wish to move around with the family.
