Bridesmaids: How Do You Choose? ? wedding preview event

Choosing your bridesmaids. This is a tough subject. I?ve literally been sitting in front of my computer searching through Hulu to see what TV episodes I?ve missed. I?ve looked through wedding blogs (blah..same ol, same ol) and I?ve created some new files to keep my brain in order. This is what I do when I don?t know what to do.

When it comes to advice, I?m not one to seek it. In fact, if someone tells me what I should do, out of spite, I try the other way first. I?m a firm believer that everyone?s situation is different and there?s more grey area in this world than there is black and white. This is why I?m procrastinating.

If this is your first time reading our blog, we should let you know that we?re not about pretty photo shoots or beautiful inspiration. We?re about real-life. We talk about subjects that apply to weddings, planning and your personal life as if you are here with us. We?re not professionals and we rarely go back through and edit our posts. This is us?in real-life. The reason for my sharing this information with you: I?m about to jump into a personal story and I wanted to lure you in.

Alright: Bridesmaid talk. When I got engaged, I had a best friend who had been by my side for a loooong time. She?d been with me through past relationships and was instrumental in getting my, now, husband and I together. However, shortly after we started dating and especially after we got engaged, there was some distance between us because my focus had moved and our friendship wasn?t what it had been. During that time, I got closer with a ?new? friend who was already in a friendship circle my boyfriend and I had become close with. When it came time to choose my bridesmaids, I chose my new friend as the maid of honor, my ?old? friend as a bridesmaid and added on my cousin and a friend I?d known since I was a kid. Today, the only person I speak to on a regular basis is my cousin. Nice job, Tawsha. Nice job.

So, how do you choose your bridesmaids? Who is the Maid/Matron of honor?

  • My opinion (after experiencing the wrong decision): Don?t go with tradition. Get girls together, create a supportive team and choose your standing order by drawing names. You think I?m kidding, don?t you? I?m so not.

Do you think this advice is sound or are we all bat-sh*t crazy?
